Installation Instructions for our New Construction Windows & Doors

SAFETY IMPORTANT:
For installation, safety glasses, gloves, safety shoes or boots, clothing to cover all areas of the arms and legs, hard hat and ear protection are required.
1. Check Rough Opening Check size (Width and Height), plumb, levelness and squareness of the rough opening. Remove packaging materials and installation accessories from the window units and inspect for damages and shortages. Inform your Distributor of any damages or shortages. IMPORTANT: Check/measure the unit size and make sure each window will fit its designated rough opening, and that the rough opening is square. Check opening for size & squareness, by placing a square at each corner. Make all necessary adjustments to ensure rough opening is plumb, level and square before installing units. Opening should allow a minimum of 1/4" shim space at head, 1/4" at sill and 1/4" at each jamb. Sill must be flat, level and capable of supporting the weight of the window unit. All window units must remain closed & locked during installation.

New Construction Windows
Minimum of 4" nominal wall thickness recommended. 2. Opening Preparation A. When opening is O. S. B. or wood sheathing, wrap should be applied first, wrapped around the jambs & sill to extend a minimum of 6" from perimeter of window frame. B. On thermo-ply applications, window needs to be sealed around full perimeter taking care not to leave nail openings exposed including all thermo-ply seams. 3. Prepare Window Apply continuous 1/4" diameter bead of sealant compatible to exterior wall material, to the interior surface of the nailing flange. 4. Installing the Window Place a shim at each corner of the bottom sill and at mullions. Place the window in the opening with the flanges tight against the opening. Sash should be closed and locked. Center the window from top to bottom and side to side. This will allow the interior trim to be installed without impeding the operation of the window. Square, plumb and shim window. Windows exceeding 60" in height, should be shimmed at the center cross rail to insure a plumb jamb. Shims need to be firm but not so tight as to bow any components of the window frame. 5. Fastening the Window 2" Galvanized roofing nails are recommended. Nail across the top first in every other star punch, making sure the window top is level. This procedure will in effect "hang the window"” and assures that it is both level and plumb. Re-check the level and plumb, nail the sides in every other slot from the top down. Do not over tighten the nailing flange, this will allow for expansion and contraction of the window. Important: Thoroughly read and follow these instructions. Failure to install as recommended may void any warranty obligations of Superseal, whether express or implied. Check building codes for the area in which the windows are being installed before installation to insure proper compliance. The installer is responsible for proper installation guidelines in accordance with any local/state codes and or ordinances. Superseal recommends utilizing an InstallationMasters™ Certified Installer or an experienced, qualified professional contractor who practices InstallationMasters™ installation methods to provide for proper operation and a proper flashing to the building. Contact your Superseal Distributor for further information. These installation procedures are general guidelines for standard wood frame construction; other methods can be utilized at the discretion of the architect or installer. Superseal is not responsible for the completeness or quality of installation. Nailing fins DO NOT take the place of standard window flashing. Windows must be properly flashed to provide a tight seal. Replacement & Remodel Windows

  1. Carefully remove the inside stops using a wood chisel and save for later use.
  2. Remove the lower sash by cutting cords or chains and gently lower weights inside jambs. Do not allow weights to fall any further than necessary.
  3. Pry out intermediate parting stop and discard.
  4. Remove upper sash in same manner as lower sash.
  5. Remove cord pulleys and double check opening for any obstructions that might prevent a clean flush opening.
  6. Clean entire opening with a brush or vacuum.

Preparing the Opening

  1. Place the head expander on the window.
  2. Install sill angle behind the blind stop.
  3. Set window into opening, check for proper fit, remove window.
  4. Caulk inside of blind stops (head and jambs), also caulk where the sill meets stool.
  5. Place window in opening and set firmly against blind stops.
  6. While holding window tightly against blind stops, install installation screw in pre-drilled holes at the top of each jamb. DO NOT TIGHTEN.
  7. Option: At this time you can fill the cavity between the window and wood with insulation.
  8. Plumb and level the window. Raise the lower sash several inches & check that there is equal space between the sash and sill all the way across. Shim where necessary.
  9. When the window has alignment clips, adjust so that there is equal space on both sides, be careful not to bow out jamb.
  10. Install two lower screws. DO NOT TIGHTEN.
  11. Check unit for proper operation (up & down, tilt-in, lock and screen movement): Adjustments can be made by turning installation screws.
  12. Once a unit operates properly, all screws should be drawn up snug. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.
  13. Raise head expander up, screw into place.
  14. Caulk inside of window, top and sides where window meets wood.
  15. Replace all interior trim
